Undead

History
Undead first appeared in Tir-Nimphel about 4000 years ago after the Old Gods disappeared. At first there were just a few, but the numbers have increased over the years, necessitating the need for special groups fighting them, such as Paladins. With the appearance of The Darklands the number of undead has increased dramatically, though they are almost all reanimated corpses, such as zombies, and as such possess little free will on their own.
Reanimated Corpses
Reanimated corpses, such as zombies, mummies or skeletons, are generally created by negative energy forming inside a corpse and reanimating it. This can happen either naturally, or by the hands of a necromancer.
Spirits
Spirits, such as ghosts and wraiths, are the souls of the dead which have returned from the beyond.
Liches
Main Article: Lich
Liches are mages who willingly became undead. Liches retain their free will, but due to the ritual they become evil even if they have shown no evil tendencies in the past. While originally not an evil creature, greed caused some mages to alter the ritual in pursuit of more power, which separated them from their souls along with imbuing their bodies with negative energy.
Vampires
Main Article: Vampire
Vampires are powerful undead who drink the blood of the living for nourishment. Similar to Liches they retain a great deal of free will, but they lack a conscience as they have no soul.
